Heat exhaustion is a mild medical condition whose symptoms vary from heavy sweating to a rapid pulse. It happens when your body is overheated because of the increased temperature in the surrounding area.

Exposure to high temperatures, particularly when combined with high levels of humidity, and strenuous physical activity can be some common causes of heat exhaustion. Fortunately, heat exhaustion is treatable and can be prevented in an otherwise scenario.

Symptoms of heat exhaustion:

Some most common symptoms of heat stroke include:

  • Cool, moist skin with goosebumps when in the heat
  • Heavy sweating
  • Fainting
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Weak and rapid pulse
  • Low blood pressure upon standing
  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea
  • Headache

Preventive measures to avert heat exhaustion:

Wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing: Wearing tight or excessive clothing will not prevent your body from cooling itself. 

Protect against sunburn: Heat exhaustion can sometimes cause great damage to your skin. So you need to protect your skin. Always apply sunscreen of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) greater than 50 to protect your skin from damage.

Hydration: Hydrating your body will maintain the normal level of fluids and other minerals required for the normal functioning of your body. This will be an effective prevention of heat exhaustion. 

Stay in cool areas during the hottest periods of the day:

The symptoms of heat exhaustion will exacerbate during the hottest time of the day – noon and afternoon. So try to stay in cool areas during this time of the day.
